Loren Wiener ~ A Google+ Commission

Tonight my blog post is a Google+ commission for Loren Wiener, a Technology Evangelist from Australia. He is also on Google+ @ +Loren Wiener. I had a lot of fun with this manipulation. Loren pretty much gave me free reins which is always fun. I even played with some 3D text in Illustrator, that was a first for me. This caricature was challenging because the source image wasn't the best I've worked with so I had to pull some tricks out of my hat and fix it up a bit. I wasn't sure if Loren was going to like the background that I honestly got carried away with a bit here, so I provided another with a soft background. He went with both. I've also posted the source image below. One more down and ready to start another. Goodnight all!

Business Updates And Recent Commissions

Tonight I'm posting a couple of updates on two projects I have put a good bit of work into lately. Above is the finalized cover for "The Browser Magazine". You can learn more about the magazine and the online version at this link. There's also more information about The browser Magazine on my previous post on the commission at this link. There is a page inside dedicated to my work as well. I will be doing work on a regular basis with this magazine and will be a permanent installment there.

I was also contacted by Catchphrase Entertainment and New Coast Productions about the movie poster I had been working on for California 90420 to be released very soon. They wanted me to go ahead and do the type setting, billing block etc. for the final poster which will be printed in three sizes as well as use as the DVD jewel case cover, so the final product is below. I also made a few changes from the previous design. Check me out! My first billing block menton. :) You can also learn more about the movie as well as watch a trailer on previous posts on this commission here and here. I am working on a portrait commission at the moment and will post it when it's complete. Sorry for the lack of posts. My business is picking up and I've been working on some things on the business side which aren't a lot of fun but need to be attended to. I will be hiring an assistant soon so I will have more time to do my work and as a result make more regular blog posts. Thanks for hanging in there with me guys!

California 90420 Movie Trailer

Directed by one of the guys that brought you the comedy hit, "Waiting...", comes the story of 4:20 Somethings; learning, leading, striving and thriving in California's semi-legalized marijuana culture.

California 90420 will be premiering on the east coast November 4th and 5th at the Asheville Cinema Festival in North Carolina.  (www.ashevillecinemafestival.com)

The west coast premiere will be in Los Angeles on November 19th.  If you are interested in attending this private screening, go to www.facebook.com/California90420.

California 90420 ~ Catchphrase Entertainment

Tonight I'm posting a mock-up of a movie poster I was commissioned to do for Catchphrase Entertainment in California. The movie is called "California 90420". If you're a cannabis connoisseur, you'll understand the 420 reference. The movie is about the legalization of marijuana in California. This is the largest print size commission I've had to date. The image will be used for the movie posters, the largest of which will be 27" x 41". It will also be used for other smaller posters, advertisements and the DVD jacket cover. Featured are the four characters in the movie. The one on the right is an instructor at Oaksterdam University or better know in California as "Cannabis College". I'll let you know when the movie is to debut and I'll post final posters when they are printed. I've been so busy lately, I haven't got a post up in a while, so wanted to get something posted tonight to let you know what I am up to these days. More great stuff in the near future. Stay tuned!

Jesse Smith ~ A Collaborative work

Jesse Smith of Loose Screw Tattoo

Jesse Smith of Loose Screw Tattoo

Tonight I'm posting a collaborative work with Jesse Smith of Loose Screw Tattoo as a gift. I met Jesse on facebook and we have become good friends. He's an amazing artist whether working on skin, paper or canvas. You can see more of Jesse's work and some of his links on an Artist Feature I did of him several months back on this blog. This is actually not the finished product but it was close enough to post. The final version will be a very large print ready piece that I will deliver to Jesse. He was generous enough to send me several pieces of his art a while back and I've been wanting to do something for quite some time but have been busy with lots of other projects. I was happy to have a couple of days to work on this which I actually started about 3 months ago. I've posted The source images as well as a WIP below. I'm also re-posting some of Jesse's contact information below from the previous Artist Feature.

Guy Kawasaki ~ Enchantment Caricatured

Tonight I'm posting a manipulated caricature of Guy Kawasaki, Author, speaker, and entrepreneur (born August 30, 1954) is a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, bestselling author, and Apple Fellow. He was one of the Apple employees originally responsible for marketing the Macintosh in 1984. He is currently CEO of Alltop. Author of Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds, and Actions and former chief evangelist of Apple. His book Enchantment is featured below and you can click the image for information on purchasing a copy. He is also a well-known blogger and a huge Google+ figure with nearly 200,000 circles, so make sure you put +Guy Kawasaki in your G+ circle and check out his profile page which has some of his most popular links.

This caricature of Guy is a mild one. I didn't have the heart to ruin that nice smile. I chose his book as the background because I was looking for ideas and wasn't having any luck. I emailed Guy and asked him what the significance is of the origami butterfly in his Google+ profile picture. He answered with a link to his book and the story behind the cover. After seeing the book and reading a little about Guy, the book seemed to be a perfect fit. I hope he doesn't get too mad at me. I've posted the source material below as well as a video of Guy on his new book. Check it out, he's a super nice guy and a very interesting person.

Bouguereau's & Raphael's Felicia Day Spoofed

Raphael's La Donna Velata Felicia Day

Bouguereau's Work Interrupted Felicia Day
Tonight I'm posting a couple of photo-manipulations of actress and Google+ giant Felicia Day. I'm sure most of you know her for her acting and her work on The Guild Web Series. For those of you who may not, you can find her here on her Wikipedia Page. She can also be found with the other leading members of The Google+ Project by her user name +Felicia Day with 200,000+ circles. I hit a milestone myself today going over 10,000 circles of my own so don't forget to circle +Felicia Day and +Rodney Pike while you're there.

I like this image of Felicia with the smirk on her face so I chose it along with a couple of Bouguereau and Raphael's masterpieces to do a couple of spoof photo-manipulations that I will tag her with on Google+ and see if I can get her attention. She's too pretty for a caricature so I went with straightforward manipulations and a little humor added. I was nice to her because I want to get on her good side. The source images of Felicia and Bouguereau's paintings are posted below.

New Linkedin Group and the Google+ Project

Click here to visit the group

Tonight I'm posting something a little different which I think many of you will find interesting. Just about everyone who knows me, knows that I'm a networker. I'm a member of Linkedin and have approximately 2,400 business connections there. Among many others, I am also a member of The Google+ Project and have been added to approximately 10,000 circles after only one month there. I'm really enjoying it and I think it's going to be a big hit as well as a great tool for people out there like me who are trying to build a business.

Shortly after joining Google+, I met a man who has become a good friend and trusted business acquaintance as well as an advisor on some aspects of Social Networking and business in general. His name is Mike Croston aka C. Michael Croston. Mike and I have teamed up and formed a new group within Linkedin for business minded Social Networkers in association with Google+. The new group is called Google+ Pre-Business Platform Network

The Google+ Pre-Business Platform Network is an open LinkedIn group designed to provide practical information about the new social network and news of the intentions to give exposure and identification to it's business community. Our purpose is to be an off-site interaction community. As information becomes available we will distribute the most up-to date posts, answer generic questions, and emphasize the sharing of personal experiences of members as they join and become acclimated to the Google+ Project in relation to their business interests.

Come join us today and grow your network and business!
