Sneak Peak at my NEW web site

Rodney Pike Humorous Illustrator
Here's a sneak peak at my new web site, RodneyPikeArt.com in the making. This is only the first slide of 4 on the landing page. There's a lot of work ahead. The layout of the site itself is relatively simple which I wanted but the e-commerce in the new store is what will take the time but I want to be able to showcase my archived work and the print sizes available as I have been selling a lot of older work lately, as well as my services offered. I hope to have this site up and running very soon so stay tuned! Also, don't forget I am always available for custom high resolution print ready portrait commissions (examples below), as well as very inexpensive custom caricature images in low resolution for fun profile pictures. Just drop me a line at rodneywpike@gmail.com for a quote.

New Web Site Launching Soon
Just a note to say I'm in the process of building a new website. I've had a couple of blogs for several years but never had a proper web site with e-commerce and a proper store offering my services and imagery. I'll have a full gallery with prints of my archived work and the print sizes available which I've received numerous requests for as well as client galleries and all services offered. The new domain is RodneyPikeArt.com and will be going live very soon so keep an eye out!

Bill Murray Handsome As Ever

Actor Comedian Bill Murray
Actor Comedian Bill Murray
This is a quick caricature study of Bill Murray. He's starting to show his age but he's still funny as ever. I grew up on this guy's comedy starting in the 70s on Saturday Night Live. He's always a fun subject to work with. I've probably done 10 caricatures of him over the years and all of them are completely different. The man has many faces!

Hulk Hogan - A Caricature Study

Hulk Hogan - Hulkamania
I hadn't expected to make another post today but being Mother's Day without my Mom this year, I needed something to keep me busy so I decided to take a practice run at Hulk Hogan. I'm presently in negotiations over a commission for "The Hulk" which I'm looking forward to, working with Ron Howard, himself a professional wrestler as well as owner and president of Hogan's Beach Shop  in Clearwater Beach, Florida. The project sounds like it could be a lot of fun. Looking forward to it, besides I always wanted to take a stab at "The Hulk".

Below is a detail of the caricature. This one is fairly mild. Didn't want to upset the Hulkster! Stay tuned to my blog and my facebook fan page. Lots of cool stuff just around the horizon with regards to caricatures and commissions as well as a brand new web site coming very soon.

As always, feel free to email me at rodneywpike@gmail.com for any commission inquiries for original work, portraits or existing archived print work at a great price!

Remembering my Mom on Mother's Day

Mary Matherne Pike - AKA Granny
Mary Matherne Pike - AKA "Granny" 1928 - 2015
Today, I'm remembering my sweet Mom, Mary Matherne Pike. Mother's Day just isn't the same without her. She devoted her life to raising us and her many grandchildren. Her entire world was her family. I always think of her when I hear the song by Alter Bridge, "In Loving Memory" written by their lead guitarist Mark Tremonti and sang by Myles Kennedy. Happy Mother's Day Mom!

A side note: To everyone who still has their Mom with them... Visit her often, love on her, buy her flowers and make the most of every moment you have her because one day, memories and pictures are all we'll have.

Happy Mother's Day to all!!

"I carry the things that remind me of you
In loving memory of
The one that was so true
You were as kind as you could be
And even though you're gone
You still mean the world to me"...

Clint Eastwood - A Caricature Study

Clint Eastwood
Clint Eastwood - A Caricature Study
This is a recent caricature study of Clint Eastwood, one of my all time favorite actors and arguably the baddest cowboy in the history of the film industry. Gotta love those crusty features! I'm in the process of negotiating a contract for several jobs with another big name you may have heard of, Hulk Hogan. The project sounds like a lot of fun and if all works out, you'll be seeing some fun new work featuring "The Hulk". Stay tuned!!

Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead - A Tribute

Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead
This is a manipulated caricature of Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead for a new client. Below are a detail of Lemmy’s face only as well as the original source image.
Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead
Ian Fraser Kilmister (24 December 1945 – 28 December 2015), better known as Lemmy, was an English musician, singer, and songwriter who founded and fronted the rock band Motörhead. His music was one of the foundations of the heavy metal genre. He was known for his appearance (including his friendly mutton chops), his distinctive gravelly voice and distinctive bass playing style. Alongside his music career, he also had many minor roles in film and television.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Marijuana

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Marijuana
Attorney General Jeff Sessions "on" Marijuana
This is a caricature spoof on Attorney General Jeff (Sesh) Sessions and his take on... or against the legalization of marijuana. Below are some of his extreme views on the subject:

Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently declared that marijuana—a drug on which no person has ever overdosed—was nearly as dangerous as heroin, a drug that killed 12,989 Americans in a single year.

"I reject the idea that America will be a better place if marijuana is sold in every corner store. And I am astonished to hear people suggest that we can solve our heroin crisis by legalizing marijuana—so people can trade one life-wrecking dependency for another that’s only slightly less awful," Sessions said while speaking with law enforcement officers Wednesday. "Our nation needs to say clearly once again that using drugs will destroy your life."

But that quote shouldn't come as a surprise, since the former Alabama senator has long been a hard-line anti-pot crusader.

Here are five other things he's said about marijuana over the years.

1. On what he thought of the KKK in the '80s in comments he later insisted were delivered jokingly...
"OK until I found out they smoked pot.”

2. On the drug being a danger
"We need grown-ups in charge in Washington to say marijuana is not the kind of thing that ought to be legalized, it ought not to be minimized, that it's in fact a very real danger."

3. On Obama's more lax approach to pot enforcement and his admiration for "Just Say No”
"I think one of [Obama's] great failures, it's obvious to me, is his lax treatment in comments on marijuana... It reverses 20 years almost of hostility to drugs that began really when Nancy Reagan started 'Just Say No.'"

4. More on Obama and pot
"You can't have the President of the United States of America talking about marijuana like it is no different than taking a drink… It is different… It is already causing a disturbance in the states that have made it legal."

5. On the kinds of folks who smoke weed
"Good people don't smoke marijuana."

The Vatican City visits my Blog

Pope Francis
Today, I received a blog visit from the Vatican City in Rome. Maybe it was the Pope, who knows? There are only 195 officially recognized nations in the world today but this was the 215th flag to register on my blog widget. I'm working on a couple of new caricatures. I'll be posting them in the coming days.
